What is TinyLetter?
TinyLetter is a free service that lets anyone send email newsletters. Your newsletter can be free to subscribers, or you can charge for it.
How does it work?
If you want to run your own email newsletter, just sign up for TinyLetter. We'll give you a web page (like this one) where anyone can subscribe to your newsletter. Then use TinyLetter to write & send your newsletter, manage subscribers, and so on. You can sign up for TinyLetter here.
I'm still confused. I've signed up for TinyLetter. Now what?
Here's the most common way that people use TinyLetter:

  1. Tell your friends (or people on Facebook or wherever) to subscribe to your email newsletter. Send them the URL (website address) for your newsletter. It's "http://tinyletter.com/username" (without the quotes), where "username" is your TinyLetter username. For example, you can subscribe to pud's newsletter by visiting http://tinyletter.com/pud. If you don't know your TinyLetter username, sign into tinyletter.com and click "Get subscribe link & embed code"

  2. Once you have some subscribers, send them a newsletter. Do this by signing into tinyletter.com and click "Write a newsletter."

That's all! Now you can visit tinyletter.com and send an email newsletter to your subscribers whenever you want.

Who is behind TinyLetter?
TinyLetter is an ADHD Labs company.
Can I make money with TinyLetter?
Yes. If you choose, you can charge your subscribers a monthly fee (example here). Or you can choose to run a free newsletter. To convert your free newsletter into a "for-pay" newsletter, sign into TinyLetter, click "design and settings," and see the "Make money" section.
What percentage does TinyLetter take from my earnings?
Zero percent.
How do I get paid?
You get paid with PayPal. Specifically, there are two ways:
  1. Money goes directly into your PayPal account -- this is the best option because you get paid right away. But it requires a bit of set up. If you want this option, sign into TinyLetter and click "Design and settings," then see instructions in the "Make money" section.

  2. We can collect the money for you -- If you choose this option, you'll have to sign in to TinyLetter and click "Request payment" to get paid, and there will be a roughly 5-day delay before you get paid.

Can I export my subscriber list?
Yes. Sign into TinyLetter and click "Meet your subscribers," then "Export subscriber list."
I have a large list of email addresses. Can I import them into my newsletter so that they all become subscribers?
Yes, sort of. TinyLetter allows you to import up to 25 email addresses per day. To do this, sign into TinyLetter and click "Import email addresses."

The per day limit exists to prevent abuse. If you need to import more than 25 email addresses per day, contact us (click "Contact TinyLetter" on this page) and tell us in painstaking detail what your newsletter is, and where you got your list of email addresses.

Someone is spamming me using TinyLetter. What should I do?
Sorry about that. Contact us and let us know -- we'll remove you from all lists, and investigate the senders. We go to great lengths to make sure TinyLetter is used for good, not evil.
There's clearly something wrong with the formatting of my newsletter.
The most common cause of wonky-looking newsletters is when the newsletter was composed in a different program (like MS Word), and then copy-and-pasted into TinyLetter. The reason is because some programs import incompatible HTML (like stylesheets, which many email readers don't support), along with the text of your newsletter, when you paste it.

You should compose your newsletter in TinyLetter, or in a "plain text" editor. And make sure to click "Preview" before sending your newsletter, to see what it looks like in your mailbox.

What about design? Does TinyLetter support email templates?
You can use HTML in your email newsletter, but we don't have any out-of-the-box templates for you. We may in the future. That said, you can make your signup page look super pretty. Here's a nice example.
My newsletter wasn't sent out. Why?
If someone says they didn't receive your newsletter, have them check their spam filter. Most TinyLetter newsletters usually get through spam filters, but sometimes they don't. This is an unfortunate truth when sending any bulk email. To minimize the chances of your email getting caught in spam filters, try not to use words that might sound spammy, like curse words or medical terms and so on. It's tough to predict what gets through and what doesn't.
Can I embed video in a newsletter?
No, because email readers (like Gmail, etc.) generally don't support embedded video. So nobody would be able to see those videos. If you want to include video in your newsletter, your best bet is to include a link to a video on YouTube.com.
Can one TinyLetter account manage multiple separate email newsletters with separate subscriber lists?
No. One TInyLetter account can only have one subscriber list. If you have multiple subscriber lists, you can sign up for multiple TinyLetter accounts.
How do I change the name of my newsletter, or the email address associated with my TInyLetter account?
Sign into TinyLetter and click "Design and settings"
How do I change my subscribe link/url or username?
There is no way to change your subscribe link or username. If you want a different one, you should open a new TinyLetter account. Feel free to export your subscriber list from your old newsletter, and import it into your new one.
Can new subscribers see old emails?
Yes, if you want. Sign into TinyLetter and click "Old newsletters and stats." From there, you can choose to send your old newsletters to new subscribers who haven't seen them yet.

Does TinyLetter sell (or otherwise provide) lists of email addresses?
No.
How can I get more subscribers?
Tell everyone you know about your newsletter! Post about it in places like Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus. If you have a blog, post about it there. Tell people about it at parties. Put your TinyLetter URL on a t-shirt and stand in Times Square. Lots of ways! :-)
Is there a maximum number of subscribers I can have?
No. You may have unlimited subscribers.
It's been several days since I requested payment. Why haven't I been paid yet?
Payments are sent about once per week. If you want to get paid faster (i.e. the instant someone subscribes to you), we recommend switching to receive payments into your own PayPal account, rather than our PayPal account. To do this, sign into TinyLetter, visit "Design and settings" and follow the instructions.
How do I delete my account?
Sign into TinyLetter and visit "Settings -> Delete account"
What's the best way to get subscibers?
This is the big question, isn't it. Tell everyone you know about your TinyLetter page! Write great content and hope that people send it to their friends. Tell people on Twitter and Facebook about your newsletter. These are just a few ways to attract people to your newsletter, and hopefully get them to subscribe.
I'm getting an error when I try to upload a background image. Why?
Make sure the filename of the image you're trying to upload includes an extension like .jpg, .png, or .gif. In other words, "MyBackground.jpg" rather than just "MyBackground".
Can I use my own domain, instead of tinyletter.com/username?
No, sorry.
I deleted my account. Now I'm trying to register again, but TinyLetter tells me my email is taken. What's up?
Currently, if you deleted your TinyLetter account and want to sign up again, you need to use a different email address than you did before.
Can I change my TinyLetter username or URL?
No. If you want a different username, create a new TinyLetter account (you'll have to register with a new email address, too).
How do I cancel my paid subscription to a TinyLetter newsletter?
Visit PayPal to cancel your paid, recurring subscription. Instructions are here.
I just bought a huge list of email addresses. Can I import them into TinyLetter?
No. We do not allow importing of purchased email addresses (aka spam).
Is it possible to include an attachment in my newsletter?
No.
